Account
An account is a named place where the business keeps one kind of figure: Cash, Sales, Rent expense, Bank loan. Every movement of money is recorded in accounts, always in at least two, which is what double entry means. Example: paying rent in cash reduces the Cash account and increases the Rent expense account.
