Retained earnings
Retained earnings are the profits the business has kept instead of paying them out to its owners, added up year after year. They are part of equity. Each year-end closing adds that year's profit (or subtracts its loss) here. Example: after two years of 2,500 profit each, retained earnings stand at 5,000.
