Accounts payable

Accounts payable is what the business owes its suppliers for purchases made on credit. It is a liability: the duty to pay. When the bill is paid, the payable goes down and cash goes down too. Example: buying supplies for 200 on credit debits Supplies 200 and credits Payable 200; paying later debits Payable 200 and credits Cash 200.
